SQT Bio Microneedling in Waterloo

Not in the mechanical sense. There's no pen, roller or needle. SQT uses natural silica spicules from a freshwater sponge, massaged into the skin, which create micro-channels from within the surface layer. The skin reacts much like it does to microneedling — renewal and collagen stimulation — but without bleeding, and with the spicules shedding naturally over 3–5 days.

Plan on 3–5 days. Day 1–2 the skin is pink, warm and prickly, like a mild sunburn, especially when you touch it. Days 3–5 bring light flaking as the old surface sheds. Most people go to work, but you won't want makeup for the first 48 hours and you shouldn't book an event within a week.

It feels like prickling or pins and needles rather than pain, building as the spicules are massaged in and lasting for a day or two afterwards — strongest when you wash your face. There are no needles and no numbing cream is needed. Sensitive skin may find the first evening uncomfortable; we'll tell you exactly what to use.

One session improves glow and texture. For acne marks, pores and pigmentation, plan a series of 3–4 sessions about 4 weeks apart, so each one lands on fully healed skin. Results keep improving for several weeks after the last session as collagen builds. We'll recommend a number at your consultation rather than selling a package blind.

No to both. SQT isn't done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and on isotretinoin (Accutane) we wait until at least 6 months after your last dose because skin heals unpredictably. Stop topical retinoids and acids 5–7 days before your appointment too. If you're unsure about a medication, bring the name and we'll check before booking.

It's good for shallow, rolling acne marks, uneven texture and the brown or red marks left after breakouts, especially over a series. Deep ice-pick scars usually need a medical treatment such as a dermatologist's laser or needling. SQT isn't done over active, inflamed acne — we treat the skin once the breakout has settled.
