What is waxing?
Waxing removes hair from the root by applying warm wax in the direction of growth and lifting it against the growth in one quick movement. Because the whole hair comes out, skin stays smooth for weeks rather than days, and with regular appointments regrowth tends to come back finer and patchier.
Face waxing covers brows, lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, forehead and neck; body waxing covers arms, underarms, legs, back, chest and stomach. Brazilian, Hollywood and bikini waxing have their own page because the rules are different.

- Sunburn, broken skin, active eczema, psoriasis flares, cold sores or rashes on the area
- Varicose veins, moles or skin tags — we wax around them
- Chemical peels, laser or microneedling on the area in the last 1–2 weeks
- Diabetes or circulation problems — tell us before booking
Before your appointment
- Grow hair to about ¼ inch (6 mm) — the length of a grain of rice; that's 2–3 weeks after shaving
- If it's longer than ½ inch, leave it — we'll trim before waxing
- Gently exfoliate 24–48 hours before, not on the day
- Skip lotion, oil and deodorant on the area on the day
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol right before if you're sensitive to pain
Aftercare
- No hot baths, saunas, steam, swimming or heavy workouts for 24 hours
- Wear loose clothing over waxed areas for the rest of the day
- Skip fragranced lotions, self-tan and deodorant (underarms) for 24 hours
- Start gentle exfoliation 2–3 days later, 2–3 times a week, to prevent ingrown hairs
- Don't shave between appointments — it resets the growth cycle

How long does hair need to be for waxing?
About ¼ inch (6 mm) — roughly the length of a grain of rice, or 2–3 weeks of growth after shaving. Shorter hair slips out of the wax and breaks instead of coming out by the root. Longer than ½ inch is fine too; we'll trim it first so it's less painful. If you're unsure, book anyway and we'll check before we start.
How much does waxing hurt?
Expect a sharp sting that's gone within seconds of each strip. Legs and arms are mild for most people; underarms, upper lip and chest are more sensitive. One client review mentions not feeling the usual pain, but honestly it depends on your skin and cycle — it hurts most in the week before your period, and less with every visit as hair weakens.
Can I get waxed if I use retinol or Accutane?
Not on the same area. Retinoids thin the top layer of skin, so wax can lift skin with the hair. Stop topical retinol, tretinoin or adapalene 5–7 days before a face wax. On isotretinoin (Accutane), or within 6 months of stopping, we won't wax at all — threading is the safe alternative for your face.
How long do waxing results last?
Usually 3–5 weeks. Hair grows in cycles, so after your first wax a few hairs will reappear within 1–2 weeks; after three or four regular appointments, everything falls into sync and you get the full 4–5 weeks. Booking every 4–5 weeks — and not shaving in between — is what makes regrowth finer and sparser.
Do you offer sugaring?
No — MK Elegance Studio uses professional wax, not sugar paste. Sugaring and waxing both remove hair from the root and last about the same time. If you've been sugaring, you can switch to waxing without waiting; just let the hair grow to about ¼ inch first.
Are the combo waxes worth it?
If you'd book the areas anyway, yes. Full arms + underarms is $55.94 instead of $62.17 separately; arms + legs + underarms (Smooth & Silky Trio) is $96.50 instead of $135.72; and the Upper Body Elegance combo is $131.18 instead of $145.76 when booked area by area.
